Ostara ideas for celebrating with your family
About Ostara
Spring equinox is just around the corner so it’s time to plan your Ostara celebration!
Ostara comes from the word Eostre, which is a Germanic goddess of Spring.
Isn’t is cool how the word Eostre is so close to Easter?
Ostara is not one of the 4 Celtic greater sabbats (Brigit/ Imbolc, Beltane, Lammas, and Samhain.) It is one of the “cross-quarter” sabbats that fall between the 4 main agricultural sabbat celebrations. Equinoxes are a time of balance, and the Spring equinox welcomes the longer days and the shorter nights, Ostara is a time of planting and sowing seeds, renewal and rebirth, and fertility.
How to celebrate : OSTARA Ideas
There are as many different rituals as there are pagan paths, and these are some of my favourites.
1. Plant a special seed.
2. Decorate with Easter eggs + fertility hares. (These are believed to be traditional pagan symbols coming from the fertility goddess Eostre!)
3. Welcome the Spring by welcoming the Spirits of your yard. The fae, the devas – the nature spirits… the small sprouts that are starting to grow.. and the spring flowers that are soon to show themselves in your yard. Go say hello!
4. GO outside and enjoy the sun. What a simple tradition, and yet so lovely. Ostara is a day to feel the balance of the day and the night, and to welcome the longer days.
Enjoy! xo
