This is a taped video branding consultation for Jane W. in Tucson.
Jane is opening a yoga clinic and asked for guidance on her colors, her shape and symbolism that she could use in her clinic, and she wanted some pointers on how to pick a name.
For Jane’s yoga brand, she wants to work with the symbol for the first chakra, but not in its entirety. This is perfect. It’s better to use symbols that we like as starting points for inspiration, and then create something wonderfully unique from the base shape.
There are some great shapes within the symbol of the first chakra, and I suggest focusing your energy there.
The downwards facing triangle that is sometimes included in first chakra illustrations is the symbol for the earth element, and you could use that as a springboard for your logo design. You could also play with the curly Qs { curly brackets } that surround the full symbol. They could be dissected, and repeated in a line, or you could use a similar basic shape as a seal that you then put your company name on.
I find a ton of inspiration in that symbol!
For colors, I suggest softening the super vibrant chakra red by adding a tiny bit of coral to the colour. This will soften that red just enough, so that there’s no way your future clients could perceive it as dangerous or violent.
I am of the idea that creativity has many shapes and forms. While I pull from years of graphic design experience when I begin a brand design, I also have some unorthodox techniques that I use. I like to push my creative limits! It’s good for me, and for the brands I create. In that spirit, we pulled some random colours from a Pantone chip book to see what other colours would work well for your clinic. The universe’s answer was full-on purples and magentas, and I love that combo with the coral red for a yoga brand! It’s perfect. It has a full on gypsy flavour, and would be very memorable for your studio space.
I also used a random word generator, and then word association and just “of-the-cuff” naming to come up with this list of potential brand names for you:
Yoga Forest
Thrive
The Guiding Postures Studio
The Asana Tent
Yoga brands tend to be quite beautiful, and have deep symbolism in their meaning. You have your work cut out for you, but if you partner with a designer who can take these ideas and soar with them, you will have a beautiful brand when you launch your business! Best of luck with your healing brand, and namaste Jane 🙂 xo
